The Downtown Farmers’ Market presented by UnityPoint Health – Des Moines connects urban and rural communities while supporting 300 local entrepreneurs including farmers, producers, bakers, artists and more, representing 58 counties across the state of Iowa. The Market spans nine city blocks and is held in the Historic Court District in Downtown Des Moines, every Saturday morning, even holidays, from May – October. The Market is produced by the Downtown Community Alliance (DCA). The Downtown Farmers’ Market has been ranked #2 of the 101 Best Farmers Markets in America by The Daily Meal for the two consecutive years, 2013 and 2014. The Market has also been named “#2 of the Top 10 Farmers Markets in the U.S.“ by Shape Magazine, “One of America’s Best Farmers’ Markets” by Midwest Living Magazine, “Best in the Midwest” by Country Living Magazine, featured in a blog on RachelRay.com and recently mentioned by The Huffington Post in 5 Free Things to Do in Des Moines, Iowa’s Up-And-Coming Capital. Success of The Market has prompted consistent growth and expansion with the development of the Winter Farmers’ Markets held in November and December. In effort to support the cohesive market community, and for the safety of both our vendors and market customers the Market will officially open at 7 a.m. Market patrons will not be able to make purchases before the market opens. Starting at 7 a.m. gives our vendors ample time to get their booths set up and ready for the opening of the Market. In October, The Market opens at 8 a.m.

Santa’s North Pole Village Craft Sale (SNPV) is one of the most popular craft shows in Iowa, featuring hand-crafted items such as jewelry, furniture, clothing and holiday decor. There are about 250 exhibitors at this event, from fine art crafters to jewelry and candle makers, and more. Local non-profit organizations offer food and drinks for sale, and the shuttle will take you from location to location all day for only a dollar. The cafeterias at each school open at 8 am and there is an array of food vendors throughout the event as well.
This event is the Ankeny Art Center’s biggest fundraiser of the year. This event began several decades ago as a means to raise operational funds for the Ankeny Art Center as well as financial support for other local nonprofit groups. This event has been an Ankeny tradition for many years!
